Rick Bilbro, PMP , Principal

Education
Rick earned his masters degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 1974. He attended North Carolina State University where he received a bachelor of science degree in 1966. In addition, Rick completed all course requirements for a doctoral degree in Occupational Education in 1979 at North Carolina State University.

Personal Background
Rick is married and lives in Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife, Pamela. Rick is an avid amateur radio operator and possesses both an FCC First Class Commercial License and an Amateur Radio Extra Class License.

Work Experience
Rick began work as an officer in the United States Army and served in South Vietnam in 1967-68. Rick worked as an Intelligence Research Analyst in Washington, DC until his discharge from the Army in 1969. He then changed his career focus to technical education and began teaching electronic technology with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System, in Charlotte, NC. In 1976, Rick transferred to the Wake County Public School System in Raleigh, North Carolina and worked as a vocational guidance counselor and project manager of apprenticeship training.

In 1980, Rick joined Carolina Power and Light Company. He implemented several projects for plant reliability improvement and customer service enhancement. Between 1984 and 1988, Rick developed and delivered a major project management organization development program utilizing project/matrix management as a strategy for managing change.

Currently, Rick is in charge of project management program development and delivery in the INNOVA Group. In this capacity, Rick provides project management training and consulting services and is responsible for developing and delivering programs such as project management professional development programs for project managers seeking professional certification.

Vendor and Consultant Association
Rick has worked with or been associated with a variety of large and small consulting organizations. These include: American Management Association; Kepner-Tregoe; Wilson Learning; International Training Consultants, Inc.; Pacific Learning Systems; Business Processes, Incorporated; the Project Management Institute; MTS Group; Project Management Mentors and Educational Services Institute International.

Awards and Recognition
Rick is currently serving on the editorial review board for the Project Management Institute. He is co-author of the handbook, An Organization Development Approach To Project Management. Rick is a founding member of the North Carolina Chapter of the Project Management Institute and served both as the President and Vice President for Professional Development for three years. Rick has presented papers and held workshops at the Montreal and Milwaukee Project Management Instituteâs Annual Symposia in 1986 and 1987, respectively. He also assisted in conducting the Project Management Body of Knowledge Workshop at the 1988 Annual Symposium in San Francisco. Rick is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
